Late Night Tales (there are other "versions" by MGMT, and others) is mostly a compilation of Cinematic Orchestra's faves. Much of the music is 70's styled rock, soul, including soulful singing in an african American female vocal song about why? freedom. This song among others are vey soulful and genuine in sound and feeling, something totally lacking in post 2000 era. Not to say the other "Late Night Tales" compiliations of this year aren't somehow authentic. But these resonate in a spirit of felt experience which is another victim in this era. The choices are so good that it wouldn't be a bad idea to check out the other artist's compilation choices, as they include many songs which mostly weren't even underground hits but speak very well of what music has been representing over the past 30 years by many bands taking there turns adding to the endless discogrophy for people to recognize.
